You've come to the right place!  We are having tons of  fun each and every day and will show your everything from  safe entries and exits, how to hold and handle  your baby in the water, breath holding techniques, intro to swim,
roll swim method of swimming, basic water safety and swim skills and even what NOT to do, such not to swim in colder water temperatures, dangers of swimming in oceans, rivers and dark bodies of water, not to ever throw
baby in water,  not to force skills, throw, don't go rescue, reach and assist rescue, on and on and on.   We are teaching you how to have aquatic fun with your child and be safe in the water with them.   Babies are so "ripe" for
swimming early on, we want to take advantage of it by letting them explore and enjoy the world of water.  Experts in infant swimming have found that children retain their swim skills much longer when introduced to them in an
extended slower program.  Children forget so quickly when the skill is not practiced regularly.  If infants  are introduced for a short burst of lessons for 2 weeks and never swim again until next season it will not be productive.
Effective 1/2017, all children will swim with parents until age 3.  We strongly feel these kids still need one on one attention and full 30 minutes of work time.  At age 24 months, if your child has acquired the necessary skills to
proceed, you will be invited to attend the Dippin Tot class which is the "ADVANCED PLACEMENT" CLASS.  You as the parent will now take over the role of their swim partner and skills will mimic the next level of KRAB
DIPPERS" .  With you in the water as their partner, the child will be able to achieve those skills and you will know their limitations and expectations.  When promoted from this class, they will  SKIP the first level and enter as
second level KRAB KICKERS!

How long does it take for my infant/toddler to learn to swim?
"Not all men (or infants) are created equal".  Some children are more cautious about everything!  Some have not had any social
interaction until coming to swim class.  Some children may have special needs, some of which may not have appeared yet.
When teaching infants, you must be willing to set long range goals.  All children deserve to be respected just as you wish to be respected.

We respect all fears of both parent and child and apply reasonable goals for both depending on ability of each  perceived by the teacher.
First of all, you must decide "what is the meaning of swimming to you"?  Is it floating, and breath holding until the counting of 5, is it jumping
and returning to side on their own, is it backfloating, is it learning our swim, roll, swim method, is it swimming 25 yard with  rhythmic
breathing, is it learning all four major strokes?
It certainly is desirable to acquire all of the above,  BUT it is learned through the  progression of skills which build upon each other.
A child can only acquire each skill as they are emotionally, physically and developmentally ready.    So why teach them anything now,
why not wait?  Because you cannot afford to wait!  Statistics prove that drowning is the number one cause of accidental death of children
under the age of 5!  it's simple as that.  In our infant classes, you not only receive proper training and swimming skills for your baby, you will
be learning how to keep your child safe in the water, what to do, how to do it and what "not to do" as well.
If your child has been traumatized by previous forced methods of swimming,  if they have had a traumatizing accident or if the parent has
a deep fear or unable to follow our methods and or directions,  it may delay the process of your infant swimming.  99.5% of  babies and parents
successfully complete their infant swimming and the child graduates with an early invitation to group instruction or private classes to continue the
learning process without parent involvement.

Proven benefits to infant swimming:

Swimming is the first line of defense in applying multiple layers of protection for your child to aid in drowning prevention!  Children under the age of 5 are at the highest risk for drowning.  Drowning is the leading cause
of accidental death of children under the age of 5.
From an instructors standpoint, we are able to instruct both you and your infant through the age of 3 maximizing that one on one full 30 minute curriculum they desperately need so young.
This gives us the time to give you the basics of how to maximize your infants swim skills by utilizing our proven methods and our  teaching aids;  what you should NOT do with your child to make their visit enjoyable;
advise you of the water safety issues,  health concerns, and remind you of the importance of constant  touch supervision, multiple layers of protection and the need for all family members to receive CPR.
Many times, swimming lessons are the child's first chance to interact with other children and adults in a group setting which is vital to their social development.
Swimming offers great cardiovascular exercise.
Swimming works all muscle groups without stress on bones.
Infants that swim  show increased mental awareness and coordination.
Warm water--warm babies!  Babies (and parents) enjoy our 91-92 degree water temperatures!
Increased balance and motor skills.  Many times infants will walk in water on our benches before they can walk on land!
Extended weekly program give children the chance to excel and succeed and retain what they have learned.....it can become a lifestyle.
The chance to "bond" with your child!  During class, your attention is devoted entirely to your infant, they are flourished with your undivided attention which is often hard to find these days.
Lastly, it's just plain fun,  enjoy them parents,  this time is so short lived!

Our Pool

Our pool is heated to 90-92 degrees, warm water means warm babies and parents!  All children 3 years and under MUST wear one (1) "reusable" swim diapers (we call them swim pants) under their suit or in place of
their swim suit.  We have them in our store.  This is for YOUR PROTECTION as well as ours.  We insist our water to be free of bacteria.  Yes, we realize they are mostly potty trained at the age of three but if there is a
diarrhea accident, we want the extra layer of protection. NO DISPOSABLE DIAPERS, PLEASE, THEY DO NOT DO THE JOB.  Go onto most any swim school website, most all professional schools require double diapers
now.
We have designed our pool especially for lessons.  We have large steps, step out near the slide, 18 inch deep bench on both sides of pool to teach from and two jumping stations.  We can have older swimmers
swimming lengths and less experienced  swimmers using half widths of pool with "teaching islands".
We have a soft slide for babies and oversize inflatable animals to ride on at the end of each class!  The bigger kids LOVE the tube slide at the end of class!

These children are being taught a life saving skill....to relax underwater, look and feel for the wall, climb up the wall and exit using elbow, elbow, tummy knee
approach.  This is NOT intended to be "waterproofing" or "drown proofing".  Responsible parenting is no less!  Just because you  have taught your children to stay
away from the street and away from moving cars does not mean you should watch them any less!  This gentle method is so rewarding in the end.
PLEASE PARENTS:   ONLY USE COAST GUARD APPROVED LIFE JACKETS WHEN IN OR NEAR THE WATER !  INFLATABLES or FLOATIES DO NOT DO THE JOB,
THEY ARE TOYS. THE RISK IS TOO GREAT TO TAKE THE CHANCE!  ALTHOUGH SWIM LESSONS ARE THE NUMBER ONE LINE OF DEFENSE IN DROWNING
PREVENTION, IT DOES NOT MAKE YOUR CHILD DROWN PROOF, IT ONLY MAKES THEM SAFE "R".  YOU MUST USE MULTIPLE LAYERS OF PROTECTION... POOL
GATES, SELF CLOSING LATCHES, POOL ALARMS, FENCES AND UTILIZING WATER WATCHER TAGS ARE ALL NECESSARY TO KEEP KIDS SAFE "R".

Statistics tell us that most children who drown were in the presence of the parents or caretakers and had been missing less than 5 minutes.  Drowning is the
number one cause for accidental deaths for children under the age of 5 and the 2nd leading cause of accidental death for children under the age of 14.  Get your
child safe and skilled and learn what you can do to keep your entire family safe by enrolling in a class at Swimsational today!

What age is best to start?

There is no magical age.  All ages have their own "peak".  For instance we find that babies 2 months to 6 months have an "automatic" responses in the water as it has not been long since they were in the womb, they
swim with their eyes open,   they enjoy being on their backs,  they tolerate water in their ears;  they are totally reliant and feel totally safe with  mom or dad and and they tolerate strangers (teachers) easily.  Most of the
time kicking is fairly automatic too!  Many times these infants swim with their mouth open,  the gag reflex is fairly automatic, which helps  prevent them from swallowing the water.  We instruct parents of  possible
hazards and dangers to be aware of and caution parents not to "overdue" it or "compete" with babies in their learning skills.
The 5-15 month old child is raring to go, likes to jump, water exercises increase balance and muscle tone. If they are not already accustomed  to floating on their backs assisted,  this skill tolerance starts to decrease
and they can become very resistant, reappearing at age 2 1/2-3.  We do not force our skills on them.  We continually try a skill to see if they are ready, if not we adjust and wait, letting the child decide when they are
ready.  If you are looking for a forced survival method of swimming where you must break the child's will to satisfy the adult desires, we are not your program.  We proceed at the child's pace.  We have found that
most 12-18 month old children start showing their independence and moving around much more at home thus do not like to hold still in the water either, which is a good place to let them "get it out".  They get a lot of
exercise, rest better and usually show increased appetite after lessons.
18 months up start becoming independent and forming their own personalities, wanting to do more things by themselves, daredevils, but also can start to exercise "NO".  This makes our job more challenging..their
attention span is short so we keep each exercise fun but short and productive.  We have work stations set up and train parents how to use them.  Parents are allowed to go from station to station with child as
instructor works with each child,  until we finally wean them from parents.  This process is gradual, once in Diaper Dipper III we start having parents sit on deck and/or  in the water parts of class and out of water part
of class, letting instructors work with child more and more then finally we place them into a class setting with peers of their own age.

Some people think that infant swimming skills are not enough to sustain them in the water so why not wait until they are older....

OH MY!?   Not knowing how to swim or not being acclimated to the water has never saved anyone that I know of..... (forget the double negative?!?!).   Do not  think that just because your child is afraid of the water, they
will never go near it or that  they are safer than one who loves the water and are drawn to it.  BUT, on the same note, do not ever fool yourself into thinking just because your child has had lessons and can swim well,
that your responsibility is any less.  Just as you have told your children over and over not to go into the street to play doesn't mean you should watch them any less and so is true with swimming.  Just because you
have given your child swim lessons and they can swim a little or a lot, does not mean you should not totally watch your child at all times.  Children are creatures of curiosity and love to explore, add to mixture that  they
are explosive, energetic and just plain kids!  They could slip and fall in when they had NO INTENTION of getting wet.   NO CHILD IS EVER DROWN PROOF!!!!!  It  only takes seconds to drown and DROWNING IS SILENT!
Drowning is sooooo preventable.  Swimsational's goal is to make your child safe(R) in the water as we acknowledge that no child can ever be totally SAFE!

What can I do to prevent a drowning accident?

One day they are not rolling over in the crib, next thing you know they have stepped out the door unnoticed!    One day they are crawling and that same day they will start walking.....are you ready?
Learn to swim.  Take a CPR class, you need to know how to swim as well,  have your children take a CPR course and learn-to-swim class as soon as they can.  Add extra layers of protection, use pool alarms when
you can, fence all pools and spa areas, use an  extra latch on pool or spa gate, remove toys from pools so not to tempt child to lean over and tip in, remove all buckets and objects child could use to climb over fence.
Give your child the gift of swimming, give them swim lessons.  Use water watcher tags.  If you are going to be around pool with children, assigning one person to watch the children can make all the difference.  We
have water watcher tags available for free.  If you will be attending a pool party, ask us for your free tags.  Give one to the adult (never appoint a child to watch a child)  who will be watching the children, this reminds
them that they are responsible.  All too often children  drown that were in the presence of parent or caretaker because they thought someone was watching and "that someone" thought someone else was watching.
Make it clear.  Make sure every child knows how and when to call 911.  Install and check safety equipment, rescue lines and buoys, in and around pool area and make sure family members and friends know how to
use them.  Children need touch supervision at all times.  Even after children have skills, they can panic, they can slip and have an accident, they can get choked, they could be jumped on or injured  by another, so much
can happen so quickly, BE PREPARED AT ALL TIMES.  A little PREVENTION can save a life!
Stop by the school and pick up your FREE WATCHER TAGS!

  • Can your child pull themselves from the water in an emergency?
  • Can they hold their breath and relax under water for 10 seconds and find the wall to climb out? Children lose this skill over time and need to practice regularly!
  • Do you implement water watchers at your pool?
  • Do you have a rescue pole at your pond?  If not, stop by our school and we can give you directions how to easily construct one.
  • Do you have rescue equipment at your pool?
  • Do you have life jackets readily available for use in boats for ALL passengers?
  • If you child is swimming, can he or she roll over onto their backs and float endlessly?  This is a lifesaving skill and takes time, you cannot learn to swim overnight, swimming is not an instinctive skill for
humans.  There is no "quick fix" for learning to swim but with proper training,  your child can learn to love and respect the water and become safe"R" in and around the water.  We add the R in safe.... which
acknowledges that no child is ever completely SAFE in or around the water.

IF YOU ANSWERED NO TO ANY OF THE QUESTIONS ABOVE, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?  ENROLL TODAY AND LET US HELP YOU GET YOUR CHILD SAFE AND SKILLED IN THE WATER!

  • Keep infants out of river water!  Underwater currents that are not visible on the surface can carry your child off in a split second AND babies can lose their body temperature quickly, especially in river water, it
is much cooler just below the surface.
  • NEVER, EVER EVER EVER LEAVE YOUR CHILD UNATTENDED IN A BATHTUB OR IN THE CARE OF ANOTHER CHILD!
  • "Most children that drown were in the presence of their parents and most were missing for less than 5 minutes".  Simply put, many " thought" others were watching the kids.  The use of water watcher tags
can substantially reduce this from happening.  One person accepts the tag as a physical reminder that during their short 10 minute span of watching the children, he or she will not take their eyes off of the
children, will not engage in social conversation, will not use cell phones or allow themselves to be distracted in any way to deter their watchful eyes on the children in the water".  When their time is up or they
need to be relieved, they simply blow the whistle and ask for relief.  At that time, someone should take over their duties and accept the same responsibility.  Working together, we can significantly reduce the
number of accidental drownings.  Know CPR!

NO CHILD IS EVER, EVER DROWN PROOF!!!  JUST BECAUSE THEY MAY HAVE SWIMMING SKILLS, DOES NOT LESSEN YOUR DUTY AS A PARENT.  WHEN IN OR NEAR THE WATER, CHILDREN NEED "TOUCH SUPERVISION"...
IF YOU CANNOT TOUCH THEM IN AN INSTANT, YOU ARE TOO FAR.
